CORONARY ARTERY DISEASE
The Treatment
A wave therapy treatment for CAD is called Extracorporeal Cardiac Shock Wave Therapy (CSWT). CSWT is a non invasive* treatment that uses waves. it is when a (non invasive) probe* is applied into the skin near the heart and emits* high energy electrical shock waves* that travel faster than the speed of sound* (340.29 m/s). [7]
The electrical shock waves are going so fast that it creates a disturbance in the blood (creates a mechanical force), which breaks off the fat plaques from the artery walls. [5]
After this treatment is done, however, the fat plaque could build up again. This means that CSWT has to be done multiple times.
