CORONARY ARTERY DISEASE
Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) is a blockage in the artery which prevents blood from going to the body parts or to the heart. This affects the cardiovascular system because blood is not able to go to the body parts and blood isn’t able to go to the heart as well. This blockage happens usually because of fat plaques. These fat plaques are formed when there is a type of scar in the artery. The plaques are made of cholesterol and other waste substances which stick to the scarred artery. After a long time, more and more cholesterol builds up there and blocks the blood flow. The plaque buildup gets thick and stiffens the artery walls, which prevents blood flow to the organs of the body and the heart. [20]

Regular blood flow.
Fat plaque partially blocking blood flow.
