CORONARY ARTERY DISEASE

The Causes

The Symptoms

The causes of the fat plaques building up in the arteries include unhealthy diets, not exercising, smoking and being overweight. Having an unhealthy diet will lead to fat plaques growing. Not excercising would not let the heart work hard to push the blood through. Excercise helps the heart become a stronger pump. Smoking allows waste substances to stick to the scarred artery walls. [9]

The symptoms of CAD include:

  • Angina (chest pain)

  • Shortness of breath

  • Pain, numbness, weakness and/or coldness in the legs or arms

  • Pain in the back, neck, jaw, throat, abdomen or back. [14]
